Wellington City Chorus would like to let you know that Co-Director Henrietta Hunkin-Tagaloa has resigned to focus on her other key commitments including her Masters degree, family and church.
Henri has been Co-Director for 10 years, a Chorus member since 2003, and is a certified Singing Judge in the Australasian Guild of Barbershop Judging and has been an approved Candidate Sound Judge for Sweet Adelines International. Henri intends to remain a Sweet Adelines Chapter at Large member and to continue singing with Fire & Ice Quartet.
Wellington City Chorus is fortunate to have had not one, but two skilled Co-Directors since 2010, when Henri joined forces with Master Chorus Director David Brooks. Together they made a formidable team, leading Wellington City Chorus to win the National Contest in 2017 and the International Harmony Classic AA division in St Louis, USA, in 2018.
We now look forward to continuing our journey with our talented Director David Brooks who has led our chorus for almost 22 years, ably supported by the Music and Management Teams, and of course the many talented members of our 75-strong chorus.
Like other choruses worldwide, Wellington City Chorus is re-setting its priorities in light of the global pandemic’s impact on singing and performing . New Zealand has eliminated Covid‑19, which means choruses can safely resume full riser rehearsals and perform publicly within New Zealand with no restrictions. While we’re excited about the opportunities this holds for Kiwi choruses, we acknowledge that many of our sister choruses overseas are still unable to gather together. We wish them well and look forward to the day when we can once again perform together to celebrate women’s barbershop.
We wish Henri and her family every success and happiness for the future, and we look forward to welcoming her back to Chorus at some point in the future.
